My my, you look lovely today

My my, you look lovely today

When I saw this sign I got all giggly at the thought of an Institute to teach people how to pay compliments. I knew it wasn’t what the institute would be for, but liked the idea of the play on words.

Apparently the term for one word with several meanings is either “polysemy” or “homonym”.

However, it turns out that I should have known better, because actually the word for saying something nice about someone is complIment not complEment. So my joke failed.

Ah well, at least I learned how to spell today.

My disco needs YOU! [This one's interactive]

March 16, 2009 at 10:14 am (Interesting things, Music, Personal) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This Sunday heralded the beginning of summer. As so often happens at this time of year, we were given a taster of days to come. Warm sun, blue skies and that lovely fidgety feeling that urges you to make the most of the sun because at any second it could be gone.

This reminded me of two CD compilations I made back in ye olden days before iTunes – I made artwork and everything. I put together a collection of tracks that could make me feel like it was summer even in the middle of winter. I’m sure you know the kind, that song or piece of music that instantly transports you to a park somewhere or a long clear road, driving with the windows down and cornfield stubble either side. I can’t find the first (and best) of these CD’s any more but to give you an idea I have included the tracklist for “Summer Anthems 2″ below.

So, this is where you come in. Oh yes, we’re getting interactive ladies and gentlemen. I want to know what songs create that inane summer-sun grin and fidgety feeling in you. Why you ask? Well, lets be honest. I want a new compilation and I’m going to steal your ideas! Still, I promise to compile and post it here afterwards. I’ll even make you some artwork. The idea is not musical integrity, just that summer-ness.

Summer in Hertfordshire

An afterthought:

Whilst I know many people find the grey and wet climate of Blighty frustrating, I have to say that there’s something about the knowledge that summer can come and go on a whim that makes it even more fun. To you readers who have guaranteed heat for prolonged periods every summer  I ask, do you ever get that feeling? Just wondering..
