Christmas. Really.
From previous posts you may have noticed that I love christmas. All things sparkly and snowy get me grinning like a loon and bouncing around. However, you may also have seen at the end of my last post that there’s a little more to it than that. Christmas (note the capital C this time) is personally beneficial to me. Not because I get presents or because I love mulled wine but because of Jesus and the way he was born, lived and died. Before you switch off, have a watch of this video. My very talented friends made it. Even if you only get a few minutes in at least you will have thought about the real reason for you few extra days holiday.
Happy Christmas
Union Chapel
I went to Union Chapel for the first time yesterday to see Slow Club and assorted friends.
They were as delightfully charming as always. Charles and Rebecca have a wonderful way of creating twee music without it becoming saccharine. Their new single Christmas TV is a prime example. The single doesn’t use their more lively chair-hitting antics but rather sticks to simple vocals and acoustic guitar. The evening was brilliant and I’m totally taken with Union Chapel as a venue. It had a totally different feel sitting in pews watching the artists and they clearly loved it. Jay Jay Pistolet commented “I don’t go to church very often, maybe I should”. Yes Jay, yes you should. For, whilst my first day of December was a wonderful day of chilled Sufjan and tinsel based indulgence, it’s not what it’s all about and we all know that. God’s plan for everyone to be able have a personal relationship with him and fulfill their purpose in life by bringing glory to Him was in full flow by the time Jesus was born and Christmas gives us a great time to remember this and ponder it. If you haven’t already thought about it then how about finding a Carol service to go to, or come to a St Helens one. Let me know and I’ll make sure I serve you a minced pie or Stollen at the end!
