Rediscoverings & Returns

November 23, 2007 at 1:28 pm (Uncategorized)

As a result of an early morning I’m currently unable to function much above sitting in front of my computer. So, I decided to make use of my time by finally replying to an e-mail asking for some music recommendations. I can never remember my new-favourite-bands when I want to, so I’m trawling through this internet randomly listening to bits-and-bobs as I go. I’d forgotten how random and enjoyable this can be. So far I’ve listened to geek-pop Swede-pop, Languid Hip-hop, Radio1 Friendly Indie, angular indie pop and avante hip-hop. I also intend to check out Burial – who I know nothing about, Justice – who seem to make great dancey pop.

I’ll also give you the heads up that Im going to pester EVERYONE to come to the next Beprepared gig which is going to be amazing.
Tues 27th Nov, The Good Ship, Kilburn. £5. DO IT

Two welcome returns recently:
1.My newly-wed sister and husband are back from honeymoon so I can start pestering them again :) Christmas shopping here we come!

2.Simon is back from South Africa. Getting up at 5.50 on your day off seems mad, but is was made more than worth-it by getting to welcome his curly head back to the UK and share a wrong-but yummy Starbucks breakfast with him. On top of that, I’ve found another person who works in White city. They’re everywhere.

Capturing Mary

November 12, 2007 at 10:41 pm (Uncategorized)

I watched Capturing Mary tonight. It’s Stephen Poliakoff’s new drama. I was expecting it to be hard work, but wow. My faith in TV and drama is restored.
Find it. Watch it. Be chilled and be delighted.

A Common Cross-Section of Society

November 1, 2007 at 10:49 pm (Uncategorized)

When I can get motivated to leave the house after work, or get up earlier in the morning I love going for a run/jog/stumble round Clapham Common. The “Eugh” feeling soon disappears as the crunchy leaves and autumnal smell kicks in.

This morning’s stumble made me smile for a completely different reason though.

As I ran I passed an old gentleman, easily in his 70s or , in a bomber jacket and Adidas leggings jogging in the opposite direction. Despite the fact that the leggings were a bit disturbing, I couldn’t help but think how I hope I’m that sprightly when I’m in my dotage.
A few moments later as I rounded the corner, a mum was jogging whilst pushing in front of her a pram with what must have been a 1 year old (?! I’m rubbish with baby ages) in it. Nothing like starting early!

So the whole age-span was jogging this morning young in years and young at heart.
