Time for an update: Music (live), Music (discussed), Muppets and Madness
I have been busy lately so havn’t got round to posting, so I feel it’s time for an update.
I went to see Aim @ Shepherds Bush. You can see the photos on Flickr. They were amazing – a real party vibe, which was completely unexpected given that the albums are quite chilled. The support acts, Rufe and Dirty Diggers were pretty darn good too. “Rufe” is basically a 16(?) year old scally and his mate rapping but their lyrics are great (who else would rap about the Melvins and Courgettes?) but incredibly tight. I need to find more about them
Today I went to a talk at the BBC Radio Theatre as part of an internal “BBC Audio & Music Festival” which was titled”Sheer Chart Attack: Chart Changes – fiasco or innovation?”. It was chaired by Steve Lamaq and featured Loopa and peoploe from Parlophone, 1965 and HMV. All in all it was very interesting and slightly surreal to see Mr Lamaq in the flesh. I resisted the urge to smack him this time (Ask James Melley if you don’t understand, and if you don’t know him then you can invent your own explanation – answers on a Comment post.)
Tonight I’m off to watch muppets being slightly saucy. Although clearly it’s not in anway modelled on the muppets.
On a more serious note, I have the radio on and it’s talking about the Brits being held by the Iranians. Things like this confuse me. We wen into their water, surely that’s wrong? But equally the Iranians seem to be a bit exteme in their response. Who is right?
Hmm.
A presence in absence
Isn’t it funny how a little thing or change in weather can spark off a particular feeling? Twice recently I have gone for a walk in the sunshine at lunctime and, with the sun in freckle-multiplying mode, I have felt the undeniable urge to have a picnic. But not just any picnic. I’m not sure why but the particular type of sunny but breezy weather has really made me want to sit in a park in Borough with an absent friend sampling the delights of El Vergel.
Despite that fact that 6000 miles make the specifics of this impossible, it was enough to bring a smile to my face.
A first.
Thanks to James Adam and Friday Cities, I am now a fully fledged geek. I had my first ever “online meet” today. London Friday Cities is a community knowledge sharing website that James suggested I try. It helps you to get to know your own corner of London rather than dissappearing into the giant Melee of the city.
Anyway, someone suggested thata book club might be interesting and a few other people agreed, so I thought hey, why not. And that, ladies and gentleman is why I found my self in a pub in South London saying “hi, I guess you know me as Gillrick” to people who were known previousely to me only as Msflic, fluffle and auwahsha. I’m pleased to say that they all seem like normal and balanced individuals and that we’ll be reading “A winter in madrid” for a month’s time……unless we all get scared that is!
RIP Avril Lavigne
Her new video for girlfriend has three things wrong.
1. Hot pants. She never even used to wear skirts!
2. Dance routine…not an angsty walk. A preppy dance routine and it’s not even tounge in cheek.
3. Crap lyrics.
I’m disspointed. The end.
