Two amazing videos

February 27, 2007 at 11:57 am (Uncategorized)

I’m not normally big on YouTube, but I was recenlty sent a link which led me on to another one….both of which need sharing. Enjoy.

Firstly, the two pastors of the church I went to in Norwich are offically mental. They have made a “Starchy and Hutch” video. Watch out for the guest star – huggy jim!

And secondly, a very cool beatboxing flute player.

Year of the Pig – Chinese New Year

Year of the Pig

Apparently they are thinking about moving the Chinese New Year celebrations out of china town next year. The papers in London reported this as if it was sheer madness, which admittedly it does seem at first. However, have been one of the 1000’s of people squished into Leicester Square to watch the daytime fireworks, I have to say…..I agree!

Radioactive Students

February 20, 2007 at 4:42 pm (Uncategorized)

York University appear to have “lost” some radioactive material on campus.

“The University of York recently disposed of a RackBeta machine, which measures radioactivity in biological materials.  As part of the disposal, a lead container, thought to hold a capsule …of Radium 226, was removed from the machine. The lead container was stored in a safe designed … in a locked and alarmed room until collected by a specialist disposal company on 13 February…When the specialist company opened the lead container on Friday 16 February, they found that it was empty.”

The full press release

Now, in the interests of fairness and not being all “Daily Mail” it should be pointed out that the amount of radiation which you’d be exposed to (in the highly unlikely even that you managed to crush the stainless steel pencil-tip-sized container) would only be toxic if eaten or inhaled. In any other location you’d think that eating or snorting an unknown substance would be very unlucky and definitely accidental…..and then you remember it’s a university they are talking about….

GO YORK!
